Over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, many of us will have observed the brilliant televised celebrations by either watching at home or heading to Central London to join the crowds. However Sarina K in Year 8 was in the midst of the many parties and parades, having been selected to perform in two Jubilee events with the Arunima Kumar Dance Company (AKDC).

The first was at the Family Day: Jubilee Garden party in gardens of Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 1st June. The fun started with dancers (Sarina in the middle) from around the Commonwealth.

The second and most exciting event was Sunday 5th June at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.  Sarina performed under the section “The Wedding Party” by Nutkhut (the only South Asian led dance company with Commonwealth connections). AKDC was invited to join this exclusive section and Sarina (second from the left in the below photo) was only 1 of 7 dancers from the AKDC to be selected. “Inspiration was taken from the Royal Wedding of The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh with a six-metre-high, four tier wedding cake as the centre piece. ‘The Wedding Party’ celebrates the universal joy of families and communities uniting through the coming together of two people”.

Here is Sarina and the other members of AKDC approaching Buckingham Palace having danced down the Mall for the cheering crowds and everyone watching at home.

We are so proud of Sarina for representing South Asian culture as part of an iconic weekend of celebrations for the Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 year reign!
