Congratulations to our Year 11 GCSE actors for a fantastic performance of their devised pieces this week.

The groups were given historical events as stimuli, including: the suffragette movement, the Titanic disaster, Jack The Ripper and the plague. They were exploring the techniques of the practitioner, Brecht, who advocated for theatre engaging the socio-political consciousness of the audience. Students were very creative in how they took to this, using signs and placards, projections, music, comedic spass, direct address and more to engage the audience in their moral messages.

I was particularly impressed with how the students used the stimuli to try to dig deeper into the historical events, giving voices to those people whose experiences may have otherwise been forgotten. Well done all!
