This week four of our keenest Physicists attended the St Helen’s Physics Tournament where, out of 11 local schools, FHS won first place!

The Year 10 team (Linnea, Jenny, Deniz and Ania) demonstrated exemplary teamwork and problem solving skills in the Physics Escape Room. Perseverance and attention to detail was the key to them succeeding in an experimental challenge to determine ‘g’ with a pendulum bob, timer and an unfamiliar equation. Finally they remained cool under pressure to solve 10 mathematical physics problems with accuracy and speed in a calculations race.

As well as the tournament challenges, the pupils also enjoyed an inspirational talk from Dr Jessica Wade of Imperial College. Dr Wade encouraged the girls to pursue Physics at a higher level and informed them of the wide range of careers Physics graduates can access.

An impressive performance all round and congratulations Team FHS!
