Creativity, innovation and enterprise are at the heart of our vision at FHS, and it’s fantastic to see our pupils’ and staff’s enthusiasm for all three areas. Just a few of many current exciting initiatives are described below.

FHS Creativity

DIY Club

On Monday evenings, Lucia Sarria and Alex Pilot (Upper Sixth) have been running a DIY Club for around 20 Year 7s and 8s. Alex and Lucia attended the Fashion School on the King’s Road, which inspired them to start the club in which they teach their younger peers about upcycling vintage clothing.

They have gained so much fulfillment from this, and our younger pupils simply love to be guided by Sixth Formers in this way.

Afternoon Tea Club

Last Friday, Afternoon Tea Club ventured out for their first visit of 2023 to The British Library followed by tea at Le Pain Quotidien, St. Pancras. Many thanks to Miss Boon and the other staff who attended for offering our pupils such an enriching opportunity.

FHS Innovation

Dr Price, Dr Bourne and our Year 10 and 11 STEAM enthusiasts recently built a Tower Hydroponics kit (using NASA technology). This technology allowed the group to grow 32 herbs in 1 square metre!  The system is soil-free, with plants flourishing due to a mist of water containing mineral plant food which is pumped over the roots in the tower! Meanwhile, LED lights switch on automatically in hours of darkness. We harvested some of the herbs last Friday, which our pupils and staff enjoyed at lunch. What’s more, we now have the permissions in place to sell this technology to our parents and local businesses!

FHS Enterprise

25 Young Entrepreneurs are busy working on their next stalls for the Spring Term Enterprise Fair.

We have two pupils working on a business plan for a healthy snacks vending machine. They are hoping to supply, stock and sell healthy snacks through a hired vending machine. Watch this space!

Those involved in the Sixth Form Innovation Sprint (Sixth Form Enrichment) have come up with a joggers design – comfy trousers to lounge around in at home with obvious FHS branding! Claudia Capuano, Cesca Glanville, Thea Haith, Pia Von Sanden and Tiggy Matthews are leading the charge here!

Finally, we are exploring and researching a Secret Book Club (possibly subscription-based). Claudia Woolf aims to carefully select books for different age groups – imagine boxed books with ribbons, personalised messages and a platform through which pupils can share their own review.

Congratulations to our pupils for all of these wonderful initiatives and thank you so much to all the staff and parents who have made them possible. We are so excited for another pioneering year of Creative Enterprise at FHS!
