This week at Lunch ‘n Learn, we had the pleasure of having a talk from Professor Claudia de Rham, Professor of Theoretical Physics at Imperial College and former TED Talk speaker.

Professor de Rham gave us a peek into the life of a cosmologist, saying that being a researcher means collaborating with your peers. After a century of success in discovery, there is still so much unknown in space and about our planet. We were taught about fundamental particles, “nature’s building blocks”, and their roles. Professor de Rham then told us about Higgs particles, which are responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe!

It is clear that she is proud of her work, as Prof. de Rham said that ‘so long as there are things to discover, it is still very exciting’. She is even writing a book on a life in pursuit of gravity, called The Beauty of Falling, that will be released in April of 2024!

The students asked lots of questions after the lecture, and it was another exciting lunchtime spent at STEAM Club!
