A huge congratulations to Franklin for achieving the most House points in the Spring Term and enjoying their well-deserved prize of extra break! In our final House events of the term, Fonteyn were successful in securing a head start for their team in Year 5 and 6 House Netball, and several of the girls were awarded House points as prizes for their Spring Term competitions.

This term, most of our points will be scored on Sports Day which takes place on Monday 5th June (first Monday back after Half Term!) at the Millennium Arena in Battersea Park. The winning House on the day secures the House Cup.

Peggy Ashcroft

  • isn’t actually called Peggy at all! She went by Peggy, which comes from her name, but her full name is Edith Margaret Emily Ashcroft
  • was the oldest person to win an Oscar aged 77 for her role in “A Passage to India”
  • has a memorial stone in Westminster Abbey

Rosalind Franklin

  • is most famous for her work on the structure of DNA
  • has a robot named after her – the Mars Rover – due to launch and target Mars in 2028
  • lived locally, and died in Chelsea in 1958

Margot Fonteyn

  • performed ballet around the world from 1934-1979
  • was appointed prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet by Queen Elizabeth
  • has a blue plaque outside her old home in Covent Garden

Virginia Woolf

  • also uses her middle name as her writing name. Her actual first name is Adeline.
  • first published a piece of writing for the Brontë sisters
  • worked as a teacher of English at a night school
