The US Universities Information Evening was held on Wednesday 25th January. The event was aimed at girls in Years 10 and 11 who intend to apply to US universities in the Upper Sixth, to give them an introduction to the US applications and general advice about the process.

Mrs Wilkes opened the event with a brief introduction to the evening by presenting the 2022 US leavers’ destinations, which include institutions such as Princeton, UVA and Georgetown. Mrs Wilkes then spoke briefly about the current Upper Sixth girls who are holding places at various US universities, and some who are waiting to hear.

I followed Mrs Wilkes’ presentation to discuss my experience with the US application process, its strengths and weaknesses, how I chose my list of schools, standardized testing and a few tips that I recommend to the younger students. Maria Blesie from UES Education then spoke about the changes in standardized testing requirements for the US applications, as well as SAT courses that are run by UES in-house, at FHS, and online. Melanie Moorhouse presented a detailed overview of the US college applications, the university experience, and how to choose your college. Melanie emphasised that ‘fit’ was hugely important, meaning that you should look into what school would suit you best, rather than looking at the rankings, for example. Finally, Mrs Marshall ended the evening with some information about girls who require special accommodation with the SAT.

Overall, the US University evening was particularly informative, and the both the girls and parents were keen to ask lots of important questions. Many thanks to Mrs Wilkes for organising such a wonderful and successful event.
