In the lead up to World Book Day Francis Holland welcomed a variety of authors to discuss their books and to inspire the girls.

Katie Webber

Katie joined us on Thursday 1st March to talk about her book Wing Jones. Wing Jones is a story which shows that ‘different’ can have both highs and lows, with the book addressing many important themes around fitting in, including being a teenager, love and acceptance.

Katie spoke passionately to the girls about overcoming her fears and rising above flurries of rejection to pursue her dream of writing novels.

The Etherington Brothers

On Tuesday 27th February, we welcomed The Etherington Brothers to talk to the girls about how to approach writing and illustrating a story.

The Etherington Brothers are two British comic, book and film creators who work together with Robin writing and Lorenzo illustrating. Robin has been writing comic material since 2003 and together the Brothers are currently working on their latest series Long Gone Don. The Brothers told the girls how they grew up with a love for comics and how they encountered imaginative worlds through sheets of drawing paper throughout their childhood. They discussed with the girls how to create a world within a story and how collaboratively they create inspiring stories.

Carina Axelsson

On Monday 26th February Carina Axelsson discussed her debut series for teens, Model Undercover with Year 7 and some Junior year groups.

The series centres around 16 year old teenage fashion detective Axelle Anderson combining fashion, mystery and romance. The girls were really intrigued as to how Carina got into writing and how long it took to write her books.
