On Monday morning, Year 7 pupils and staff gathered in St Mary’s Church, Bourne Street, for the finals of our Morison Verse Competition.

The competition, named after the headmistress of FHS from 1908 to 1935, Alice Morison is one of our most glorious school traditions. Each girl entering takes the time to learn a poem by heart then recite it for a large audience of their peers and teachers; building important skills for the future including oracy, storytelling, confidence in public speaking and the ability to engage an audience. As well as hearing our Year 7 finalists’ recitals, we enjoyed wonderful recitals from our Francis Holland Prep Morison Verse Competition winners in Reception to Year 6.

We were so impressed with the quality of our finalists’ recitals across the board. Huge congratulations to our overall winner, Sophie, for her beautiful recital of William Wordsworth’s “Daffodils”, and all our other brilliant participants. Thank you so much to the English Department for organising this lovely event.
