On Thursday 10th and Thursday 17th March, FHS’ UVI theologians met with Satyadasa David Waterson, a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community and a Buddhist tutor at Eton College, to supplement our study of Buddhism at A Level Theology and Philosophy. The discussion touched on the fundamentals of Buddhism: sila (ethics), samadhi (meditation) and prajna (wisdom), as well as contemporary issues regarding the compatibility of Buddhism and feminism and the nature and role of ‘Engaged Buddhism’. Satyadasa also shared with us his reflections on becoming a practicing Buddhist after leaving his career in law and his experience as a Buddhist in modern day Britain. This was a thoroughly enriching experience, and many thanks to Ms Crawley for organising the event.
