On Monday morning, Years 3-6 were visited by children’s graphic novel illustrator, Emily Fellah. The girls were all very excited, and after an introduction that taught the girls about all the different types of illustration techniques that can be used in graphic novels, the girls had the opportunity to have a go themselves! The first task that the girls had to do was think of an ‘original character’ and have a go at drawing this character on a piece of paper. The girls were shown different ways to draw different animals and characters using simple shapes, and they were encouraged to try out lots of different illustration and drawing techniques to draw their original character. From Snail Superheroes to ‘Robo-Zombies,’ there were some wonderful, artistic and very strange new creations! Then the girls moved on and created a graphic novel storyboard of their own! Their storyboard had to include their original character, and had to tell an original short story in six cartoon frames. The girls were taught different ways to lay out their storyboards to make them as creative as possible, and the end results were excellent!

All sorts of genres, action, mystery and comedy abounded. All of the girls really enjoyed the workshop and should be extremely proud of their original and imaginative short stories and graphic novel illustrations! It was lots of fun and very good practice for our Graphic Novel Competition which launches today, Friday 11th November. Make sure to enter – click here for more details!
