Yesterday, as part of the Westmacott Programme, all of Year 10 descended on the museums in South Kensington to begin their work on the Francis Holland Project Qualification (FHPQ).
This is an enquiry-based project and a valuable medium by which the girls can develop independent research skills, deepen their understanding of a topic, reach conclusions and make judgements, as well as learn how to manage their time effectively and to cultivate confident presentation skills.
The starting point for the project is a trip to either the Victoria & Albert Museum or the Science Museum, when pupils explore the galleries to find an artefact that will become the focal point of their research.
The identification of this artefact will then act as a springboard to investigate a wider area about which they can draw conclusions. All of this will culminate in the delivery of a Verbal Report in the Summer Term.
In the words of Year 10…
“We really enjoyed learning about the uses of different artefact and the stories.”
“It was eye-opening to delve into different parts of the world and their culture.”
