On Monday, Year 4 ventured by tube to the Design Museum. After lunch, there was time to explore the exhibitions. The temporary exhibition showcased the vibrant and bold designs of Yinka Ilori and the permanent collection, ‘Designer, Maker, User’, allowed the girls to explore the development of modern design. After this, they took part in a workshop all about sustainable design. The girls looked at the problem with our ‘throwaway culture’ and considered the length of time it takes for different materials to decompose. Next, the girls looked at new innovative and sustainable materials, some of which were made from recycled objects, including bubble gum! At the end, girls were able to apply their new knowledge to design their own environmentally friendly toothbrush. The final designs were original, thought-provoking and creative.
