As we approach Christmas with increasing speed, the school is bustling with Christmas activity. Certainly, the Music Department is brimming with carol singing, and we are all excited for the spectacular event of our double carol service day! To put you in the Christmassy mood (if you aren’t already) here’s a selection of fun and often funny classical music Christmas clips…

The King’s Singers are a renowned ensemble of acapella singers, who are known for their unrivalled technique, versatility and skill on stage. Here is a video of them singing Gaudete, a 16th century sacred Christmas carol. The following video has a hilarious rendition of some people doing a comical voice-over the original video.

This video is an old classic of a primary school nativity going a bit pear-shaped. In this case, a little girl was told to ‘sing up for Mummy at the back’, which she took a little bit too literally.

Handel’s Messiah is an old classic to be performed at Christmastime. This is a school’s unique rendition of the Hallelujah chorus…

Some more King Singers! This video illustrates the great versatility of these singers as they sing an incredibly difficult jazz arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. There are lots of great music references imbedded into the arrangement, including Take Five, a jazz standard by Dave Brubeck.

Another jazzy arrangement with Voces8, who rival The King’s Singers in their vocal talent.
