This week members of Classics Club from Years 7, 8 and 9 learned about an ancient writing system called cuneiform.

Ancient scribes in the Near East used a stylus to inscribe wedges into a clay tablet, which could then record all manner of information for the civil service of the time. In Classics Club we had a go at writing our names in Ugaritic cuneiform, using air drying clay (helpfully supplied by the Art department) and a ‘stylus’ made from half a lollipop stick. This was a tricky (and messy!) business, but we gave it a good go and managed to come up with some excellent results!
