On Wednesday, we were delighted to once again be able to host our annual Careers Fair for Years 11-13, with a fantastic turn out from our own pupils and parents plus twenty students from one of our local partner schools, Chelsea Academy.
Professionals from a diverse variety of industries including advertising, architecture, charity, engineering, entrepreneurship, events, finance, law, medicine, publishing, property, tech and wealth management came to exhibit and speak about their career paths to date.
The evening began with presentations by Kate Ewart-Biggs OBE, FHS alumna and Deputy CEO of the British Council, the UK’s biggest charity which builds understanding and trust between the UK and over 100 countries around the world through education, English, the Arts and culture, and Christine Agnew QC, barrister at 2 Bedford Row with vast experience in criminal cases, specialising in major fraud, corruption and health & safety, as lead counsel for both defence and the prosecution.
The second round of presentations were given by Gemma Maclellan, business advisor to the Senior Vice President HSE & Carbon at BP, who has worked all over the globe for the oil and gas ‘supermajor’ for over 16 years, followed by Dr Greg Leonard, junior doctor at King’s College Hospital with a special interest in paediatric cardiology, and Dr Alistair Ludley, junior doctor at the Royal Sussex Hospital with a special interest in dermatology.
The Senior Hall housed exhibitors from STEM, business and not-for-profit industries, including mechanical/ engineering companies Caeli Nova and BAE Systems, artificial intelligence company Manus AI, tech companies FridoTech and 11-29 and charity CRIS Cancer Foundation, to name only a few. A particularly popular exhibitor was Susannah Barran, another FHS alumna and speech & language therapist who was accompanied by her gorgeous miniature dachshund, Alice – an added bonus!
The Lower Ground Floor held a very different but equally fascinating selection of speakers from creative and GAP industries including IID Architects (who designed our spectacular new Sixth Form Centre, the Old School House!), global advertising company Grey, events company Mystical Fairies which was founded by FHS alumna Meg Gordon Sussman, and London based children’s developmental exercise company, TARKA London.
