On Tuesday 7th March, the A Level Classicists had the privilege of seeing Medea being performed at the new theatre @sohoplace. This was especially useful for those studying Classical Civilisation, as it is one of the works you study in Year 13.  This classic Greek Tragedy, set in its original time setting, is also a must see for anyone with an interest in Classics in general. The cast brilliantly captured the rollercoaster of emotions this play takes us through, from initially pitying Medea, who has been abandoned by her husband, to horror when we learn of her dreadful crimes. The acting was very impressive, particularly Ben Daniels, who played every male character in the play, and was able to transition effortlessly between these characters from the hilariously funny Aegeus to the patronising Jason. This therefore made the point that this is really a conflict between patriarchy more generally. Overall, the performance was highly engaging and an excellently delivered interpretation.
