On Wednesday 9th October, FHS was a vibrant hub of creativity and energy as we welcomed prospective families and their daughters to FHS for our annual three-session 11+ Open Evening. Before embarking on tours of the School, our Head, Alexandra Haydon, spoke to attendees about how FHS is a school with emotional development, community and relationships in its DNA, where girls feel truly known by their teachers and peers and are therefore supported to know themselves, pursue their passions and go on to achieve extraordinary things. Following this, Upper Sixth and Year 9 pupils spoke about what makes our FHS community so welcoming and inclusive, as well as sharing their favourite aspects of school life; describing the school as a safe place in which girls can flourish into creative and confident pupils.
Our guests were then given tours of the School led by Year 8 pupils, who were brimming with excitement to share what they love most about FHS! Classrooms were alive with brilliant subject displays, demonstrations and interactive workshops showcasing the dynamic, inspirational teaching, focusing on thinking innovatively, problem-solving, skills for the future and our 7 Cs of creativity, confidence, communication, curiosity, collaboration, craftsmanship and communication, which we offer at FHS. With everything from watching a demonstration of chocolate printing in STEAM to creating mandalas in TP, from learning how to make LEGO robots in Computer Science to enjoying a mini workout in our state-of-the-art Sixth Form Gym, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Other sections showcased what makes FHS so unique, for example our unique Futures & Innovation Programme and TIPS (Thinking Innovatively and Problem Solving) programmes, our transformational Sixth Form Centre, the Old School House, our Centre for Creative Learning, winner of a national RIBA architecture award, and our brand new Collaboration Space and Cornerstone Pastoral Hub.
Thank you to all our students and staff for being such fantastic ambassadors for the School, and truly epitomising the reasons we were named Sunday Times Independent School of the Year 2023. It was wonderful to welcome so many prospective families; thank you so much to all who came and we look forward to seeing many of you in September!
