This week, Year 10 pupils created models of the Roman Colosseum for their Classical Civilisation prep.

Their brief was simple: design a historically accurate Colosseum model (or diagram) and develop skills in creativity and craftsmanship in the process. Gaby, Chiara, Florence and Ismay all made terrific models, but Eva stole the show with her fantastic cake model of the Colosseum (which the rest of the class helpfully demolished to mirror the ravages of time).

Eva’s extraordinary cake included details such as the imperial box, duelling M&M gladiators, Vestal Virgins (in red) in the front row, and the awnings at the top of the amphitheatre that provided shade from the elements. Once again the Classics department has proven that when it comes to fun and learning you can have your cake and eat it!
