On Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th March, FHS celebrated World Book Week.
The festivities kicked off yesterday afternoon when Year 9 girls received a visit from Alwyn Hamilton, author of the Rebel of the Sands trilogy, who spoke about how her Art History degree from Cambridge and her work for Christie’s inspired her to write a novel combining the exciting action of rebellion with the desert magic of 1001 Nights.
The Junior School celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite literary characters. At lunchtime, the Creative Writing Club got everyone thinking and writing, led by Ms Shevah, whose advice as a novelist has been invaluable to those girls who aspire to literary careers themselves.
The Sixth Form have been both intellectual and ecological by wrapping second-hand books in newspaper and swapping these mysterious parcels among themselves. Many recommendations for reading were shared around, and it was wonderful to see such a healthy interest in reading from students of all subjects.
At the end of the day, everyone dashed home with their Book Tokens, which they can use to swap for a special World Book Day book or to get a discount on a book of their choice.
