On February 10th, The Plum Pudding Riots came to the Junior School to give a history workshop to Years 5 and 6, fuelled through drama, singing and acting. The workshop was provided by Peter Daniel of Westminster Council and the MoD (Ministry of Drama). The Plum Pudding Riots of 1647 were in response to a forgotten period of British history where Christmas was cancelled! The girls were instantly hooked when they saw parallels between this significant event and recent times when Boris Johnson tried to cancel Christmas.

The workshop was based around true stories that took place in Westminster 375 years ago during the English Civil War. Years 5 and 6 were introduced to the predecessors of King Charles III as the country approaches the coronation next year.Ā  Girls were transported back to the Somerset House home of Queen Henrietta Maria, Charles I’s French, Catholic wife to learn of the consequences of religious intolerance. Girls learned about the fascinating story of an outbreak of Bubonic Plague in Westminster in 1646 as a comparison to Covid-19.
