On Wednesday 27th of January, Yasmin and Lois have proceeded to the London regional final of the ESU Mace, which is the UK’s longest-running and most prestigious prepared debating competition.

They won their debate and have proceeded to the next round. Along with another winning school they knocked out St Paul’s Boys, The Oratory, Queen’s Gate and the Harrodian to proceed.

They both worked very hard indeed preparing the motion (THW ban cosmetic surgery for non-medical purposes) and richly deserve their success.

On Thursday 28th January, FHS hosted the first round of the ESU Public Speaking Competition. Our Year 10 team, Nicola Medicoff, Zarah Drummond and Anastasia Sheptitskaya, were runners-up in a field of eight teams, including Godolphin and Latymer and Notting Hill and Ealing Schools among others. Nicola Medicoff also won best speaker for her excellent speech on the topic, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction” in which she ranged from the threat of the Cold War to Reagan, whose quotation this is, to the dangers posed by the internet today.
