The Sixth Form recently attended an informative talk from Dr Mark Richards from Imperial College, discussing STEM pathways and the stereotypes of scientists.

Dr Mark Richards was a truly inspiring speaker and an enjoyment to listen to. He opened our eyes to the many opportunities that science and STEM subjects lead to; some of which I had never of thought of such as remixing tracks and modelling. The talk was very relevant to todayÂ’s issues, as he works on measuring and recording gases that contribute to pollution in London’s streets. Moreover, he talked about the creative aspect of STEM and how he used the skills that he learnt from his passion for music and applied it to the study of waves in his current research. He also discussed about the innovation and enterprise that is involved in STEM and how research goes into solving everyday problems in an efficient way. This talk has broadened my perspective on what STEM is and what it has to offer.
