Next week we will be celebrating British Science Week, focusing on the theme ‘Innovating for the Future’. There are a number of exciting opportunities for your daughter to get involved with, both in school and at home.

On Monday morning, all girls will take part in an interactive workshop led by The Little House of Science. Reception – Year 4 will be experiencing some crazy chemistry while Year 5 and 6 will explore the possibility of colonising Mars.

The British Science Association have launched a nationwide poster competition, encouraging children to reflect on the theme of innovation and what it means to them. In their art lessons, the girls will begin work on a poster portraying an aspect of innovation in science that appeals to them. Should they wish to enter the competition, the girls can complete their posters at home and return them to school by Monday 22nd March. Five posters from across the Junior School will then be selected as FHS winners and entered into the nationwide competition. We encourage all the girls to get involved! You can find out more about the poster competition here.

In Monday’s assembly, Mrs Anstee will also introduce the girls to the weird and wonderful chain reaction machines designed by Rube Goldberg. There will be an optional family challenge for you to design and create your very own Rube Goldberg inspired machine together at home. More information about this challenge will follow and we look forward to seeing photos or videos of your daughters’ wacky contraptions during the week. Watch this short video clip to spark some ideas.

Please keep your eye out for photos of our Science Week activities in next Friday’s newsletter.
