On the week commencing Monday 22nd January, the School celebrated an “out of this world” Moon Week with rare samples of moon rocks and meteorites.

Girls have been learning about our solar system and lunar exploration missions during our week-long interactive “Moon Week”. Students were given the unique opportunity to handle 4.5 billion year-old specimens from outer space. Highlights included lunar specimens brought back from the Apollo 15 mission, a remarkable nickel-iron meteorite found in Argentina and even a piece of Mars rock. Spectacular, polished slices of meteorite were observed in detail using microscopes, while others explored the Apollo landing sites using interactive software.

Moon week began with a fascinating assembly about lunar exploration and the influence the moon has had on our lives and our culture. As well as investigating the rock samples, the girls have had the opportunity to enter a competition to design their own moon base and others have enthusiastically trawled the school looking for hidden questions in our moon quiz.
