We were honoured to host the Cambridge Schools Debating Competition last Saturday, when around 200 students and teachers from 70 teams attended the first regional round. We welcomed a number of leading London schools, including Alleyn’s School, Latymer Upper School, City of London School, City of London School for Girls, St Paul’s Girls’ School, Westminster School, and Dulwich College, and put forward four teams from FHS, from Year 9 to LVI. Competitors arrived at 8:30am and the Senior Hall was abuzz. There were four rounds throughout the day with motions such as ‘Has the internet negatively affected feminism?’, which was a hot topic. The event went on until after 5:00pm. A huge thank you to Miss Wigdahl, who was instrumental in setting up the event, and to Jordana Burk, Emma Shevah, Jessica Ballie-White, our debating coach Maria Garan, Facilities staff, cleaners and Sixth Formers Skyla and Lola, who gave up their Saturdays to come in. Our debating teams did not go through to the next round but it was a wonderful experience!
