Junior School pupil, Sofia B, recently donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, to raise money and awareness. Read Sofia’s story below.

“I desperately want to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, an auto immune disease which is caused by the pancreas producing too little or no insulin. My cousin, now ten years old, was diagnosed when she was four years old, six years ago now. Approximately four hundred thousand people in the UK are living with type 1, of which thirty thousand are children . The number of type 1 diabetes diagnoses is increasing in the UK every year by four percent. JDRF, a charity who supports children and adults with this illness, is a great help to my cousin from the moment she was diagnosed.

Some time ago, I met a 9 year old girl who had lost her hair due to cancer treatment. The image of a young girl wearing a head scarf to conceal her head stuck in my memory. The Little Princess Trust makes a difference by giving a free wig, made of real hair, to children up to twenty four who have lost their hair through chemotherapy or other treatments.

I decided to cut 40cm off my hair and donate it to The Little Princess Trust. I am raising money for both of these amazing charities while doing so.  My family has also helped to raise money by cycling 859km in twenty one days so far on an indoor bike.”
