Earthlings, all systems are ‘go’ for an FHS helium balloon launch carrying a science experiment payload, cameras and Fearless Girl mascot to the edge of Space. A dedicated team of five Year 12 students have worked on this STEAM project for the past academic year and the countdown to reach the Stratosphere is ticking towards a 05:30 BST release on Sunday 25th June. Current predictions suggest that the balloon will land roughly 80km away from our London launch site at Vincent Square; on a heading towards Cambridge, with a flight time of approximately 2.5 hours and burst altitude of 28341m.

While the prospect of rising at the crack of dawn to witness an early morning launch may not appeal to you, it is possible to track the balloon’s progress here, to follow our radio frequency tracking device (attached to the balloon) on callsign FHSSW1. You will get live updates as the balloon traverses the skies above London and heads north towards Cambridge before landing at approximately 08:00 BST.
