On Sunday 26th November, six girls ventured forth to the magical world of the Harry Potter Debating Competition for four rounds of British Parliamentary debating.

Here they tackled motions such as ‘This house would ban the use of bludgers and beaters in the game of quidditch’ and ‘This house would require every wizard upon turning 18 to live a full year without the assistance of magic’. Chloe Holbrook and Aimee Morris (Year 10) put up a spirited performance while Sophie Sullivan and Marysia Fanner-Brzezina (both Year 9) are to be commended on winning their first round debate. Sara Sullivan and Zarah Drummond (LVI) combined forensic knowledge of the Harry Potter books with some excellent analysis to achieve a personal best: they reached a break room in the fourth round (ie a position from which it is possible to break to the grand final) and only lost out when they came up against two speakers currently in the England squad. Congratulations to everyone on an excellent day of debating.
