A cohort of five girls from Upper Sixth embarked on a trip to New York over the October half term on the geography and politics trip.

We managed to cover all of New York City in just three days, visiting and learning about many different landmarks including the 9/11 memorial, the Rockefeller Building, West Village, The Meatpacking District, Wall Street and the United Nations Headquarters. We learned about migration during our visit to Ellis Island and its museum as well as the political effects of 9/11. One of the highlights of the trip was the tour of the United Nations Headquarters. We were able to see where all of the major decisions are made by the Security Council as well as the main chamber where the general assembly gathers annually. We visited the High Line and learned how New York is trying to be sustainable and this was a perfect example of urban retrofitting as well as walking through Central Park and seeing the contrast between nature and the concrete jungle. The trip was very informational and greatly enjoyable and we would like to thank the teachers for organizing such an amazing trip.
