On Wednesday 4th November, our sister school, Francis Holland Regent’s Park hosted the annual FHS Careers Fair. Following on from the success of last year’s Careers Fair hosted at FHS Sloane Square, we were delighted to join for the virtual event, which included a talk and live Q&A with author and entrepreneur, Jessica Huie MBE.

Guests were invited to view a virtual event page, which showcased the opportunities and resources provided by FHS to pupils to help them plan their future career. Guests were able to take a look at the incredible range of speakers we have welcomed in our Careers Programme, alongside the opportunities on offer to girls through Creative Enterprise. The page also offered guests a peek into our new Sixth Form Centre, the Old School House, an inspirational new building opening in January 2021, which will provide our pupils with an enterprising space for budding entrepreneurs to meet with visiting mentors. We would also like to thank our incredible network of alumni Career Champions who continue to work closely with our pupils.

FHS Regent’s Park welcomed this year’s special guest speaker, Jessica Huie MBE to the event. Jessica was honoured with an MBE in 2014 for services to entrepreneurship and positive influence on the community. Having enjoyed a successful career as a journalist and publicist, Jessica spoke about the challenges she had faced in her life and how she has used them to fuel her desire to succeed. She encouraged girls to ‘Be the change’, reminding us of our own mantra at FHS Sloane Square, ‘Be the difference’, reaffirming the value of social conscience and commitment to making a difference in society. Jessica also spoke to us about the importance of being motivated by something bigger than your own gain, evident in the success of her multi-award winning multicultural greeting card company, which drove an early conversation around the importance of ethnic representation in retail. Jessica ended her talk with perhaps the most important point, emphasising that “you cannot get life wrong”; a motivating and uplifting message for our pupils.
