We were delighted to welcome Dr William Glazebrook to lead our Careers Conversation on Tuesday 15th March.

Dr Glazebrook talked to girls about his immensely rewarding career in Emergency Medicine. Girls were riveted as he spoke of his journey from medical training to becoming a top A&E consultant. Dr Glazebrook spoke about the day to day workings of an NHS junior doctor and consultant and gave us a key insight into the workings of an A&E department. He also spoke of his work in roadside accident and emergency care, as well as helicopter medicine. Most recently, Dr Glazebrook and his team have been followed by a film crew to make a human documentary of the workings of his A&E department and his work has now extended to television consultancy for the BBC, which showed girls your career can take unexpected turns at any stage!

Dr Glazebrook also gave us some examples of his hugely successful female colleagues in medicine who are working in top consultancy positions in sports medicine, wilderness medicine and more. He talked about the demands of an intensive, fast-paced career in emergency medicine and highlighted how utterly rewarding it is to be able to make an instant difference at the forefront of medical care. The talk was both inspiring and gripping and girls were able to gain a fantastic insight into the challenges and rewards of working in emergency medicine, as well as other medical fields.
