Thinking Innovatively & Problem Solving

TIPS Week (Thinking Innovatively and Problem Solving) is festival of creativity for Years 7, 8 and 9! The TIPS activities aim to challenge and inspire our girls to tackle a diverse set of problems in groups, and individually, with an emphasis on our 7 Cs: Confidence, Commitment, Craftsmanship, Communication, Curiosity, Collaboration and Creativity.

Year 7 and 8 take part in full year group sessions that encourage them to express their individuality and find new interests, as well as developing transferable life skills and their 7 Cs. As well as using the diverse expertise of our talented staff body, pupils also benefit from the expertise of local providers which our excellent location facilitates.

In 2025, Year 7 created a film on climate change with Young Film Academy and attended a practical entrepreneurial workshop. Meanwhile, Year 8 produced a Trashion show in collaboration with the Fashion School in Chelsea and Year 9 took part in the Earthshot project. This included an FHS fusion of Model UN and the international Earthshot Prize which was presented by Prince William and Sir David Attenborough. Pupils were assigned different countries and investigated the numerous environmental issues that their countries face, using their creativity to develop and pitch a possible solution.

TIPS Week 2024

Throughout the week the girls are encouraged to take risks, reflect, collaborate and commit to the challenges presented. Here are some comments from the girls themselves:

‘Thank you so much for having a TIPS week. It was probably my favourite event in my entire life at school. Thank you FHS!”

“Curiosity is important for finding out if you will enjoy something and if you never find out or try you’ll never know.”

“If you try something you’ve never done before, it will make a huge impact on the things you do next in life and you will feel more brave and committed.”
