The Year 4 girls kickstarted their week with a fantastic trip to the Hyde Park Education Centre on Monday morning. Coinciding with what we have been studying in class, the session was based on maps and orienteering. In the first half of the session, we learnt to use a compass, map, and key. We were given maps of London and asked to find certain landmarks. We learnt how to use a key thoroughly, a skill that will be extremely useful. Once we had mastered our map reading, we then competed in an orienteering challenge navigating Hyde Park in our four groups. The groups were given a set amount of time to complete the challenge with points deducted for returning late and points earnt for answering questions correctly. Getting the answer right, with an accompanying photograph taken on an iPad provided by the centre, resulted in maximum marks. This was the perfect start to the week; running about in the outdoors, learning new skills and working with our peers to achieve a task.
