On 5th November 2024, I was privileged enough to be able to go to the historical site where the history-shaping event of the Battle Of Hastings took place. When we arrived, we were split into groups to explore the site. We watched a short movie to get to know the battle even more and then we looked for answers in a room filled with artefacts and filled out the answers in our sheets. We explored how monks were the cleanest people in the land and how they lived their lives (we even sang a bit of a song in Latin like a monk!)

We learned about the ancient toilets, musical instruments and medicine. Did you know that doctors would taste, smell and examine the sick person’s urine? We were able to explore the architecture and go into the wrecked dormitories and the underground heating room. We went into the orchard and spoke about all the different foods monks would have grown to eat. We even saw the battlefield where The Battle Of Hastings took place. At the end, we were even able to stand on the site where Harold Godwinson died!
