In Thursday’s history lesson, Year 2 looked at a painting of a little girl from 1801 followed by a picture of her as a young woman. We used this source analysis to discuss what we’d like to her ask her if we could and what we’d want to find out about her. The girls then split into groups and tried to construct a life for her, answering these key questions:

Where was she born?

Where did she move to?

How did she become wealthy?

What happened to her?

We had lots of fun acting out these constructed lives before finding out who the girl really was. Her name is Sarah Forbes Bonnetta, and she was an African orphan who became Queen Victoria’s goddaughter.
