Last Wednesday the Art (Miss Arlington) and Drama (Miss Robinson) departments took girls in year 7-9 on a stretch and challenge trip to The Saatchi Gallery and the Royal Court Theatre.
The programme called Art on Stage was developed by both venues together to improve understanding of the interdependence of the creative arts. The trip began with a tour of the current show at The Saatchi Gallery (Known unknowns) and was followed up with a drama workshop at the Royal Court Theatre.
The girls enjoyed engaging with the art work which then informed the drama workshop focusing on using art as inspiration for staging, building story and developing characters. The girls then performed bits from their devised pieces before finishing with a behind the scenes tour of the theatre.
It was a excellent trip that shed some light on how a stage production is developed and how inspiration can be found in unlikely places. Thank you to The Saatchi Gallery and Royal Court Theatre for the opportunity!
