This week, Sarah Choudhry, the General Council at CoolCo came to speak to us as part of the Sixth Form Speaker programme. She has practiced law in several law firms in London such as Reed Smith and since 2014 has been working in the male dominated shipping industry.

Sarah described how her journey started off with aspirations of becoming a Barrister and then, as she gained more experience, decided to switch paths and work in the commercial side of the shipping industry. She reinforced the message that Mrs Elphinstone regularly delivers to us at FHS: that changing career paths is completely normal and life after school will not be linear but full of ups and downs. Doing something you love to do was a central theme of her talk and an important message to the Lower Sixth, who are currently trying to decide which university courses to apply for.

She also discussed some very topical issues and more recent job openings in the corporate field, such as ESG. The role of ESG has become vital and there are many roles in corporate companies which address issues of sexual discrimination and the environment, which many of the LVI are passionate about. However, because ESG is still an emerging sector, many LVI were not aware of it and Sarah helped us to understand more about the role it plays and its importance. She talked about her position as a female in a mainly male-dominated industry, which was extremely relevant and helped us to understand more about how to face a male-dominated world.

We are so grateful that Sarah was able to come and speak to us about her role and some very relevant issues this week.
