On Friday 21st March, the Afternoon Tea Group set off for its final outing of the year (!) to the Courtauld Gallery.

A key highlight of the trip was seeing a portrait of Cardinal Granvelle, a prominent individual in the Dutch Revolt element of our A-Level History course. Other notable paintings included Edgar Degas’ ‘Woman at the Window’, which was painted whilst Paris was besieged by the Prussians, and Monet’s ‘A Bar at the Folies-Bergère’, which contained various hidden details including a trapeze artist and asymmetrical bottles.

Another inspiring feature was the Bloomsbury Room, whose design (including dark red walls) was inspired by the Bloomsbury Group, a set of intellectuals and artists in the 1950s, which included Virginia Woolf and after which one of our 4 Houses is named. Following our visit to the Courtauld, we set off to Ole and Steen where various Danish pastries were sampled, and topics of conversation ranged from our favourite painting at the Courtauld, to our favourite books.

A massive thank you must go to Miss Boon for organising all these trips over the past year, as well as all the teachers who have accompanied us, most notably Mrs Ramage and Dr Bourne. They really have been the highlight of an already eventful school year!
