This week, the Junior School have been taking time to remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, thanking her for her service and commitment during the 70 years of her reign.
Last Friday, Mrs Dixon led a special assembly following the news of Her Majesty’s death. This week Mr Russell led the Year 4–6 Current Affairs assembly, teaching the girls about the British Empire and the development of the Commonwealth.
Miss Smith and Mrs Dixon went along to Buckingham Palace and Green Park to lay flowers. Mrs Dixon took some photos of the Palace and Miss Smith took a photo of herself laying some sunflowers.
Yesterday, Mr Russell went to pay his respects to The Queen. He joined the queue at 4pm and eventually entered Westminster Hall at midnight where he saw Her Majesty lying in state. Mr Russell said, “It was one of the most surreal and humbling experiences I have ever been part of. Truly, an event I will remember forever”.
Wylder, in Year 6, brought a very special letter into School. She wrote to Her Majesty for her Platinum Jubilee. In the letter, Wylder wished her a happy Jubilee and enclosed a bracelet. Much to Wylder’s surprise and delight, Her Majesty wrote back, thanking her for her card and present. This is a letter that Wylder will treasure forever.
“I’ve always wanted to write to the Queen and wished that she would write back. I even researched if she replied to the letters herself! I feel so lucky to have this special memory.” Wylder, Year 6
