On Wednesday 1st October, some friends from Year 9 and I went to talk to the elderly at In-Deep. We all sat down with them and talked about life, hobbies, and even their favourite foods. I felt that it is important for the elderly to talk to young people, as many might not have family nearby, and it brings them comfort and joy to share stories when they canāt easily do so with their own relatives. Personally, I really enjoyed talking to them. I think it makes the elderly happy and noticed that we take time out of our lives to listen to their stories and learn about their experiences and families even if they don’t have family close. It brings the community together, and we all learnt so much from different people. On the way back on the coach, we were all sharing stories and bonding with each other with how much we enjoyed it. In my opinion, this is one of the best charity events the school has organised. When you think of charity, you often think of war, hunger, and helping people in needābut this offers a different perspective. In-Deep is a community space where the elderly can talk and make friends. I know many of the elderly people there have made new friends there and even discovered they live close to each other. Now, they attend bingo classes and other weekly activities together. It was an amazing experience, and I believe itās one of the best charity ideas the school has come up with and I hope it will go on for years to come as it makes a big impact in their day every time we visit and they remember us from years ago when we visited In-Deep and KLS which shows how much they appreciate us and our time we spend with them.
