The Harvest Festival has always been a fantastic opportunity to show our generosity to our local community.

This year, as is now traditional, we have collected foodstuffs to deliver to our local charity partner In-Deep, a charity that combats loneliness in elderly people over Lambeth and Westminster boroughs.

Last week, Year 9 Charity Reps visited the In-Deep Lunch Club to get to know some of the elders and take their stories back to FHS. On Tuesday this week we collected, organised, sorted, and then (with the help of 15 motivated Year 9 pupils and five exceptionally helpful Year 9 parents) packed 48 Harvest Festival bags, each containing some staples, some tins, some hygiene products and plenty of treats! This was superbly complemented by Francis Holland Prep, who on Monday collected, sorted and packed 50 bags, as well as raising £901 in the collection. A huge total!

On Wednesday morning, the bags were taken to the In-Deep Lunch Club, where Emma and Colin gratefully received them from Year 6 pupils, explaining how welcome such donations are to their patrons.

Our ongoing support for charities like In-Deep is a vital part of who we areĀ at FHS.

As I told the Senior School earlier this month, we must be ‘the crisp in someone else’s sandwich’. You’ll have to ask your daughters to explain that one…
