Art now, more than ever, has proven itself to be the best therapy. I have had some very thoughtful messages from our lovely students saying how much Art lessons have meant to them over this time at home. Our Lower School February drawing competition, 28 Days, 28 Faces has been very popular, with one student even admitting that she now prioritises drawing faces over watching TV! Result!

We don’t like limitations. But sometimes limitations force us to be creative or to take a different approach. Finding ourselves in lockdown, without access to the wealth of space and resources we usually find in our lessons, we decided to really delve into drawing. Drawing with pencil, shading, finding form through value contrasts. What a perfect time to really study the face, the features, the human body. Drawing really is the basis for all other artistic pursuits.

And so here is just a small selection of some of the quite stunning results from our studies of facial proportions and facial features (Y7), facial proportions (as part of our Playing with Proportion unit) (Y8) and seated figure studies (Y9). Well done to all our students who have shown such dedication and creativity this half term.
