On Wednesday 3rd June, FHS descended on Battersea park for the eagerly anticipated annual Junior Sports Day. It was a bright and beautiful morning and the girls entered the park awash with banners, tops and coloured hair ribbons, all proudly representing their respective houses.
There was real excitement amongst the girls and the sense of house morale was even bigger than in previous years. Many parents, friends and family came to the event donning their daughters team colours. Each girl was proud to be representing their house and had been putting in lots of practice prior to the event.
There were many impressive records created this year particularly by Year 4, 5 and 6 in both track and field events. It was great to see girls as young as Reception take to the athletics track for their middle distance run. The determination and perseverance of many of the girls at such a young age was impressive to watch. The Year 1 girls in particular highlighted the true values of FHS and completed an impressive 200m, crossing the finishing line with a smile. The girls took part in numerous events on the day and a number of great all-rounders emerged, doing their house and school proud. The Year 6 girls finished their 800m on a high, completing their final event at their last Junior Sports Day as one big team. The loyalty and support demonstrated by the year group was a real highlight of the day.
Junior Athletics club was a huge success this year and the girls have really enjoyed it. It was great to see the young athletes applying all their hard work in training and putting it into practice on the day. It was fantastic for the PE department to see a range of abilities compete across the year groups, but most importantly that everyone competed with a smile on their face. The parental encouragement and support given to all girls on the day helped to creating such a positive experience. Everyone involved should feel a real sense of achievement – roll on next year!
