KS1 had a wonderful afternoon exploring and debating what a sculpture is, and the various methods and materials they can be created with from carving and moulding wood and metal to constructing structures from found objects. They looked at work ranging from Alexander Calder’s delicately balanced Mobile to Salvador Dali’s surreal Lobster Telephone.

They then set to work creating their very own Surreal Sculptures using pipe cleaners and beads. This meticulous work allowed them to focus and develop their fine motor skills whilst encouraging their imagination to run free. Every sculpture had a little story behind it inspired by a theme personal to each girl. These themes ranged from magical kingdoms and unicorns to family holidays and friendship.

The end results were unique, vibrant and delightful works of art!
