In March, a selected number of Senior and Junior girls took part in the much-awaited FHS 2015 Gym and Dance Display.

With the theme being ‘Around the World’, the audience was taken on a journey to various corners of the globe and we were able to watch gym and dance routines from an array of countries. These included India, South Korea, France, America and Canada. All girls worked extremely hard to pull the performance together, with rehearsals before and after school, which enabled them to put on such a polished show.

The Junior School set the bar high as they were the first to perform with a matinee performance, which became the first of the four shows. The performers waited eagerly backstage with a mixture of nerves and excitement. They were able to demonstrate a variety of gymnastics skills learnt in their lessons, as well as showing off some of their fantastic moves in their incredibly dynamic dance routines. Girls from Reception to Year 6 impressed the audience with their energetic choreography that displayed the different cultures from a range of countries. With each group representing a different country, it allowed the audience to get a real taste of an assortment of routines with some using apparatus and others using just themselves to create impressive shapes. The Junior School managed to put on an energetic and memorable show for both parents and staff.

The Seniors took to the stage later in the evening with a similarly spectacular performance. The show was led by a group of stylish air stewardesses who took the audience with them on their tour around the world. The evening started with a dynamic performance by the Year 7 dance group and this led to various group and pair gymnastic routines. Smaller dance groups also performed with great energy and there was a faultless dance solo. A selected Senior group performed with grace and elegance, and demonstrated the importance of teamwork when performing large group balances, as they required both strength and trust. Girls also demonstrated their ability on the apparatus with the Senior gym squad displaying some excellent flips and jumps on the trampette. The night showed real originality and skill for all to see and the girls presented the audience with a fabulous show.

Congratulations to all of those who took part and a huge thank you to the PE Department for their endless support. The performances proved to be a great success and we look forward to continued gym and dance achievements in the future.
