Years 4, 5 and 6 had waited all term to return to Norbury Park, their beloved Forest School site in Surrey. This was to be the first Francis Holland Foresters trip since the Summer Term and the girls were more than ready to break free from their classrooms and embrace all that autumn has to offer.

It was so calming to be away from the sound of London traffic and listen to birdsong instead. The summer green leaves have turned autumnal orange and brown.

Years 2 and 3 were blessed with sunshine for their Tuesday trip. We were not so lucky. The rain did not hinder our fire making skills, with the girls successfully sourcing enough dry wood in a very damp forest. They used a combination of ‘ferro rods’ and cotton wool to create their own fires. One of the highlights was learning how to cook on the fire with marshmallows on skewers. Obviously it would not have been a true FHF trip without our customary hot chocolates to end the day.
