This week, Year 2 and 3 went on their first Francis Holland Foresters trip of the year to Norbury Park. Whilst their theme for the term was very Autumnal, the weather was not! They enjoyed a beautifully sunny day in the woods den building, fire lighting, climbing trees and getting creative with some Autumn art. They spent the morning learning how to build and light a fire and collecting firewood. They then roasted their own marshmallows to make some delicious smores, and enjoyed hot chocolates and singing songs around the fire. Year 2 used their knowledge from their science lessons on minibeasts and food chains to build bug hotels, complete with elevators, and made their own Autumnal pumpkin natural art. They went on a scavenger hunt and described what they had found using similes and lots of adjectives. Year 3 learnt all about the properties of fire and created their own mini fires, practising using flint and steel ferro rods.

Blanca in Year 2 used her surroundings to inspire her own Autumnal poem:

Beautiful red leaves
Fallen from the trees
See them on the ground
With the pinecones that are brown

Well done Year 2 and 3 for a great day out! We cannot wait for the next Francis Holland Foresters trip.
