We did it!  Francis Holland School managed to have not just one carol service this year, but four, hosted in the beautiful St Michael’s Church, Chester Square.

We were not going to be cowed by the rules and regulations of Covid, but instead rose to the challenge of creatively finding ways to welcome in the season of joy and goodwill while maintaining our bubbles and our safety.  Carols were sung, readings read, and candles were lit as students from as young as 4.5 to 18 years of age worshipped the Christ Child in song and spoken word.

As we gathered around the Advent wreath, we prayed for our world in that hope that the troubles and difficulties of this year might be a source for each one of us to grow in love and grace.  We also took inspiration from the fact that the holy family too faced their own difficulties, and yet their vulnerability and humility became the home for love to be born.  With such inspiration, we look forward to the coming year with hope and cheer.  Hopefully, next year will see the return of congregational singing and a physical closeness, but for now we celebrate our undiminished belief not only in the resilience of our community, but in the joy of the ‘love that came down at Christmas’.
