We were thrilled to welcome two actors to lead our Careers Conversation this month, our very own Actor in Residence Rose Reynolds, along with Wilf Scolding.

Rose and Wilf gave a truly inspirational talk to our girls on the challenges and merits of a career in acting and the talent and skills needed to pursue such a career. Girls listened attentively as Rose and Wilf shared their passion and dedication to the art. Both actors described how their love of acting had developed at an early age, with Wilf taking the lead in the primary school nativity! Rose gave us a fascinating insight into the world of actors’ agents, likening the process of finding your perfect agent to a series of speed dates, talking us through her quest to find the best partnership for her.

Both actors emphasised the need for resilience in an industry in which rejection is encountered on a regular basis. Rose placed importance on the need for self-knowledge and self-love to ensure that the inevitable knockbacks of the acting world do not deter you from continuing to pursue a career in the field, but make you stronger. Rose and Wilf’s passion for their art form shone through. A key message from the talk was the need to enjoy acting and to have a true passion for performing. Rose took us through the experience of studying drama at Guildhall and emphasised the importance of punctuality and discipline to succeed on a demanding course and in a challenging, but immensely rewarding career.

With both actors recently enjoying a number of successes in their own careers, it was an inspiration to our girls to hear them talk about their ongoing journeys in the profession.
